Appiano - at the doorstep of the Dolomites
With over 1,000 hectares of vineyards, Appiano is South Tyrol’s largest winegrowing municipality, in the heart of the Province of Bolzano.
The 390 hectares cultivated by our 320 winegrowing families are spread across sun-drenched slopes, where nature provides ideal conditions for producing outstanding wines.
Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay & Sauvignon
Most Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon vineyards are located at altitudes between 400 and 700 metres, on the slopes at the foot of the Mendola Massif, in an area known as Monte Appiano.
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir also thrives on the cooler hillsides of the Mendola Massif, in the Monte Appiano area at altitudes between 400 and 600 metres.
Here, limestone-rich gravel soils with a higher clay content provide ideal conditions for this variety, giving the wines finesse, depth and structure.
Pinot Grigio & Gewürztraminer
Pinot Grigio and Gewürztraminer thrive on the hills surrounding the Winery, along the renowned South Tyrolean Wine Road, at around 400 metres above sea level.
Riesling & Müller Thurgau
Our Riesling Montiggl comes from grapes grown in a distinctive area surrounding Lake Monticolo, at around 550 metres above sea level.
At higher altitudes, reaching up to 900 metres, so-called “heroic viticulture” is practised. These demanding conditions provide an exceptional environment for varieties such as Müller-Thurgau and Riesling.
Lagrein, Merlot, Cabernet & Schiava
Our full-bodied red wines come from vineyards in the warmer areas of South Tyrol. Lagrein thrives in the Bolzano basin, while Merlot and Cabernet are grown along the South Tyrolean Wine Road between Lake Caldaro and Cortaccia. Our Schiava vineyards, meanwhile, are located in the historic Oltradige area.
